When do I need to re-feed?

The nutrients in SYBASoil will run out in ~6 months on average.

We will advice you on the right fertiliser after doing our plant scan.

When do I repot?

We recommend repotting once any of these things happen:

  • You see roots growing out of the bottom of the pot
  • The soil dries very quickly between watering
  • The plant is top-heavy and wants to fall over
  • Roots are pushing the plant up and out of the container
  • Every 1 to 2 years

What can I expect when using your products?

94.2% of customers report visibly stronger roots& leaf growth within a few weeks.

You will also notice that watering becomes a lot easier due to having the right soil structure.

Why is the soil peat-free?

We don't think peat is so neat!

It becomes too compact over time, leading to a state where it no longer absorbs water.

That's why we opt for coconut fiber and worm castings, keeping your potting soil delightfully airy and usable for much longer. Much more environmentally friendly in its use & less CO2!

🍋 The Perfect Citrus Tree Soil for Healthy Growth & Big Fruits

How Do I Use These Products for My Citrus Plant?

Growing citrus at home — whether it’s a lemon, lime, orange, or calamondin — starts with giving it the right foundation. That means choosing a soil that can meet the specific needs of a citrus tree: drainage, nutrients, and root aeration. Our Universal Mix makes it incredibly simple.

To repot your citrus plant, choose a pot with drainage holes. Citrus roots are sensitive to excess moisture, and proper drainage is non-negotiable. Fill the bottom third of the pot with Universal Mix. Position the plant so the top of its root ball sits just below the rim, then fill in the gaps around the root system with more mix. Lightly press down the soil and water thoroughly to help the mix settle.

Whether your citrus plant lives indoors by a sunny window or outdoors on a patio or balcony, Universal Mix adapts. It holds just enough moisture to keep the plant happy between waterings while preventing the sogginess that leads to root rot. Thanks to the mineral and organic structure of the mix, your plant gets a steady diet of nutrients without becoming waterlogged or compacted.

Over time, the mix supports consistent root development, healthier leaves, and — with the right light and care — more blossoms and fruit. You’ll see your citrus plant thank you with every new flush of growth.

How Does Universal Mix Work for Citrus Plants?

Citrus trees aren’t your average houseplants. They are nutrient-hungry, light-loving, and sensitive to soil quality. Many garden center soils are too dense or too wet, leading to slow growth, yellowing leaves, or fungal issues. Our Universal Mix solves this with a carefully balanced blend of organic and mineral ingredients that target the core needs of citrus trees.

Here’s how each ingredient helps:

Worm castings offer a slow-release, organic source of nitrogen and micronutrients that feed your citrus plant without shocking the roots. This supports flower development and fruit formation over time.

Perlite adds air pockets into the mix, creating a light texture that encourages root expansion and oxygen flow.

Lava rock contributes excellent drainage while adding minerals like magnesium and iron.

Coco coir acts as a moisture regulator, holding enough water to hydrate the plant but releasing excess to avoid root rot.

Activated carbon supports root health by binding impurities and improving soil microbiology.

Organic nutrients round out the mix with a long-lasting supply of plant food designed to nourish without artificial spikes.

In short, the Universal Mix mirrors the type of soil citrus plants thrive in naturally — loose, light, rich in nutrients, and never soggy.

The Original Habitat of Citrus Plants

Citrus trees trace their origins to the warm, subtropical and tropical climates of Southeast Asia — regions like India, Southern China, and parts of Indonesia. In these natural environments, citrus plants grow in fast-draining, often sandy or volcanic soils. These soils are rich in organic matter, but more importantly, they are light, airy, and allow rainfall to drain quickly — protecting the roots from sitting in water.

Replicating this environment at home is essential if you want your citrus to thrive. That means using a soil mix that doesn’t compact, avoids peat, and mimics the texture and drainage of native citrus-growing regions. Universal Mix does exactly that, making it easier to grow healthy, productive citrus trees in pots or containers, even in cooler or urban climates.

How to Care for Citrus Plants

Caring for citrus plants is rewarding, but they do have particular preferences. Follow these tips to keep your plant strong and productive year-round:

Light: Citrus trees need at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day. Indoors, place them in the brightest window you have. Outdoors, choose a full-sun location.

Watering: Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid letting the soil stay soggy for long — citrus roots are highly prone to rot.

Fertilization: Feed your plant monthly in spring and summer with a citrus-specific fertilizer, or a balanced organic one. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows.

Pruning: Trim lightly to encourage airflow, manage shape, and remove any dead or weak growth.

Winter care: If you're in a colder climate, bring your citrus plant indoors during frosty months. Avoid placing it near radiators or heaters.

Starting with a high-quality soil like our Universal Mix removes much of the guesswork. It keeps your citrus well-supported, both above and below ground, giving it the best chance to grow strong roots, push out flowers, and eventually — deliver juicy, fragrant fruit.
